Wheelchair Sports Championships Aplenty – Adaptive Sports Weekly Update 8/17

We’re back with some awesome events for our Adaptive Sports Weekly Update! We had lots of excitement early in the summer with two awesome power soccer tournaments and some adaptive rock climbing, and we’re looking to finish it off strong!

First up this weekend we have a wheelchair tennis tournament hosted by the University of Alabama. We’ve been following the amazing progress of Alabama’s Adapted Athletics department lately. They have won several national championships in collegiate men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis and have devoted a state-of-the-art gym solely to adaptive sports athletes! They are continuing this push in adaptive sports with this tournament which is part of the Alabama Open. It will take place from August 18-20 with Alabama Adapted Athletics livestreaming the event. Click here for a full schedule and livestream links.

After the weekend, we need you to cheer on your country!! The Wheelchair Basketball Americas Cup is starting up on the 21st with teams from North, South, and Central America facing off. Ten Men’s and six Women’s teams will face off in Colombia for spots in the 2018 World Championships! Stay tuned to our pages for livestreaming links in the next couple days.

Later on in the week check out the Wheelchair Softball World Series running from August 23-25! Wheelchair Softball is a new sport for us but one that has been around for over fourty years. The Nebraska Barons are the two-time defending champions and are looking for their third straight victory in the World Series as the #1 seed. Visit the National Wheelchair Softball Association’s Facebook page for updates and schedules and check out the video below!
