US Power Soccer Nationals 2019 Day 4 – Shockwave Power Through Premier Conference To Win National Title

Already through three exciting days of tournament play, we only had a few matches left to decide everything! On Monday, Ability360 FC and San Jose Flash took home Founders and Presidents titles and it was now time to wrap-up Champions and Premier, the top two tiers in US Power Soccer!

Champions Conference Playoffs

The Champions Conference final would come down to the two top seeds, PRHC Chariots and Atlanta Sting. Both teams went undefeated in the group stage and continued streaking through the semifinals with the Chariots taking down the Chippewa Valley Hooligans 4-0, and the Sting winning a 3-0 decision over the Minnesota Northern Lights. Moving onto the 4:00 pm final, defense ended up being vitally important. Neither team could break through in regulation ending 0-0. The teams would go onto play two 5-minute overtime periods. Atlanta struck first, jumping out to a 2-0 lead with a goal on either side of the break between overtime periods. The Chariots were able to pull one goal back 2 minutes later, but they could not equalize and the Sting took the trophy!

Premier Conference Playoffs

26 wins. Zero losses. It was a perfect end to a perfect season for the Minnesota Shockwave, as they defeated the RHI Sudden Impact 6-2 to win the Premier Cup and become national champions! The Shockwave cruised through the playoff bracket, defeating the San Jose Steamrollers 6-0 and the Circle City Rollers 2-0 en route to the final. In the championship game, Minnesota’s Riley Johnson got the first goal after 5 minutes, his first of four in the game, as his team jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the end of the first half. Much of the match was Johnson streaking down the court controlling the ball and seeing whether or not Sudden Impact’s Moises Rojas and Jordan Dickey could stop him. RHI was able to get on the board early in the second half, raising hopes for a comeback, but the Shockwave would get back to their scoring ways. They added three more goals, the sixth by Tiffany Ostrom, to put the game out of reach. RHI’s Jordan Dickey scored the final goal of the game to make it 6-2, but it was too little, too late and the party was on for Minnesota!
